Food bloggers participate in Texas Peanut Tour
Texas Peanut Producers Board host in Lubbock
LUBBOCK, Texas (August 4, 2016) – Nine food and lifestyle bloggers from across Texas gathered this week to join Texas Peanut Producers Board (TPPB) for the inaugural Texas Peanut Tour.
The free event, which was made possible by the state’s peanut checkoff, gave bloggers insight on the field to fork process of peanuts. Tuesday evening kicked off the tour with a dinner and reception sponsored by Visit Lubbock at the Bayer Museum of Agriculture featuring cowboy music and poetry and an old-fashioned chuck wagon dinner.
Wednesday, bloggers traveled to Brownfield, Texas to Monty and Kathy Henson’s peanut field and learned how peanuts are grown. The day continued with a tour of Birdsong Peanuts, a shelling facility in Brownfield, then a picnic lunch overlooking a Lost Draw Cellars vineyard. The bloggers also enjoyed a tour and tasting at McPherson Cellars and a peanut-inspired seven-course tasting menu by North Catering.
The tour concluded over brunch Thursday with a presentation by Kyla Hamilton of CommonGround discussing food safety from the perspective of a farm mom.
“Social media and blogs play a vital role in getting the message of food safety and agriculture to consumers,” TPPB Executive Director Shelly Nutt said. “There is no better person to tell our story and encourage people to use peanuts as an ingredient than these food bloggers, many of whom are mothers and the primary food buyer in their homes.”
Bloggers in attendance included Maegan Brown (thebakermama.com), Jocelyn Brubaker (insidebrucrewlife.com), Jennifer Land (jennsraq.com), Carrie Lindsey (carrieelle.com), Megan Myers (stetted.com), Denise Oviedo (addicted2recipes.com), Krista Rollins (joyfulhealthyeats.com), Meagan Wied (azestybite.com), and Joanie Zisk (zagleft.com).
Each blogger was required to make multiple social media posts using the hashtag #TXPeanutTour and will write a blog post on their websites in the following month.
